What’s Better than Smoked Ribs on Your 102nd Birthday?!

Gerald Thomas

 

I think it’s safe to say that we have found the oldest Tex Howard’s customer in retired chemistry professor Gerald Thomas. This last weekend, Professor Thomas celebrated his 102nd birthday, and is seen here enjoying some of our smoked baby-back pork ribs at his birthday party. One hundred and two, people! Just the number is amazing in itself, but look at him! His hair is better than mine, and he’s got almost a half-century on me! I wish we could take some credit for his great hair and skin, but I think we’ll have to chalk most of that up to good genes! Gerald’s daughter Julia is a regular customer of ours, and she’s been looking forward to this party for some time. (And she assured me he was looking forward to the ribs!)

 

Originally hailing from the south, Professor Thomas taught chemistry at several western universities, including San Francisco State right here in the Bay Area. Julia says he was the best teacher she ever had (“He could make you love – well, like – chemistry.”), and is a true Southern Gentleman. Julia says “His momma raised him right.” She sure did, Julia . . . she sure did. Happy Birthday Professor Thomas! We’re proud to have you as a customer! And we’re looking forward to you breaking your own record at next year’s birthday party!
