Friday BBQ Spotify 8/9/13
I love these Friday breaks. And although I’ve missed a few posts over the last month or so because we were busy cooking or serving at events on Fridays, they’re good battery re-chargers for me. Unless I’m already thinking about something topically musical, I like to get up on Friday morning, turn on Spotify, and see what they have playing on the suggested or new list. We catered a great event yesterday evening that was honoring Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, and although the event was successful and all the patrons were terrific, we’re plum tuckered out, yet we have to get set to go right back to it cooking briskets and chickens today for pickup by a new customer tomorrow. So I’m really in the mood for something that helps me reflect a little. And I listened to John Mayer’s new song called Paper Doll. Beautiful song. I guess all the buzz is whether or not he wrote it about Taylor Swift as a “right-back-at ya” reaction for her song “Dear John” that she wrote about him. I don’t get people sometimes. What do you think songwriters write songs about? Their experiences. Or at least their reflections about others’ experiences. I don’t really care what or who John wrote that song about. It’s just a beautiful song for some self-reflection. And when I looked up a list of ten John Mayer favorites, I realized it was pretty easy to come up with that list. Young man may have difficulty finding the right long-term muse for himself, but he sure writes well about them. Or whomever he’s writing about. My daughter took off today for a weeklong Yosemite backpacking trip with her boyfriend, and I’m sure thinking a lot about her. As well as my lovely wife. Good man that John Mayer. Nice music to have in the background while the briskets are smoking for hours. No matter what Taylor Swift thinks.
So let’s cook and reflect together. Or do some housework and reflect together. Or if you’re still working at the office today like most people, let’s listen to some good music in the background and just be happy to be alive. Another Friday’s in the books people, and we’re all still here. That’s enough to reflect about. Have a great weekend everyone.
